We Opened a Shop. (And Nobody Spontaneously Combusted.)

Well, it happened.
The doors opened, people came in, and—miracle of miracles—everything more or less worked.

Opening day at my tiny-but-mighty shop at The Shops on Main was equal parts joy, panic, and trying to look like I totally knew how to use the register. (Spoiler: I did not. But I learned fast.)

Within the first hour, I:

  • Forgot how to make change,

  • And nearly cried (in a good way) when someone said, “I’ve been following your journey online—I had to come see it in person.”

It was a lot.
But it was also the kind of day that made all the caffeine-fueled chaos worth it.

Now that the dust (and stray fabric threads) have settled a bit, I keep finding myself standing in the shop, just… looking around.
Because somehow, this tiny 150-square-foot space has become a real, living thing—one that hums with conversation, laughter, and the occasional sound of me tripping over a storage bin.

Here’s what I’ve learned in Week One of Shopkeeping:

  1. People really love to talk about their projects—and I could listen all day.

  2. Label makers are a gift from the gods.

  3. No matter how much space you have, you’ll fill it. Instantly.

  4. “Just popping in to look” is code for “I’m leaving with fabric, and I’m not sorry.”

To everyone who came by, sent messages, or cheered from afar: thank you. Truly.
Your encouragement made this dream real, even when my brain was mostly held together by coffee and willpower.

And if you haven’t made it by yet—come visit! I promise the shelves are (mostly) stable, the vibes are good, and there’s a 97% chance I’ll be covered in thread but smiling anyway.

This Friday is our official ribbon cutting, and I’d love to see your faces there! It still feels a little surreal to even type that—but we’re doing it. Scissors, smiles, and probably a few happy tears.

Here’s to first weeks, small wins, and making messy magic in real life.

Stay stubborn. Stay scrappy.
💛 —Your Resident Maker of Things (& Slightly Less Frazzled Shopkeeper)
